We treat our fellow members like family, and lend a helping hand when possible.Welcome to the website for the Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association of Freeport. Every year we provide on average fifty members and their families with financial assistance when they are dealing with illness or financial hardship in their life. We also provide assistance by lending medical equipment, including wheelchairs, mobile scooters, walkers and more. We even provide assistance for corrective lenses, and funeral services.On this site you can use the forms below to apply for assistance or membership. It is with deep regret that we announce the 9/11 related Line of Duty death and passing of former member Michael Ornauer, Former member of Eveready Hose Co.#1 and member of this association, who passed away on July 2,2019 at the age of 60. Mike joined the Freeport Fire Department in January 1978 serving as an active member for several years, before joining the Long Beach Fire Department. During his lifetime, Mike was a dispatcher for Nassau County Firecom (#30) Long Beach F.D. Parade and Drill Official, and made immediate friends with anyone he met. Our Condolences go out to his family and friends, and to the Officers and Members of Hose Co.# 1 and the Long Beach Fire Department on their loss. A Fire Department service will be held on Sunday July 7,2019 10 A.M. at the Gutterman’s Funeral Home 175 N. Long Beach Rd. Rockville Centre N.Y. Burial to follow at the Wellwood cemetery.
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Honorary Chief Francis G.Shea, Former member of Vigilant Hose Co. #2 and life member of this association, who passed away on May 12, 2019 at the age of 95. Francis joined the Freeport Fire Department in June 1943 serving as an active member for over 50 years. Before moving to North Carolina Our Condolences go out to his Son Thomas, nephew Ex Chief Steve Wenk and to the rest of his family, friends, and to the Officers and Members of Hose Co. # 2 on their loss. services will be held on Sunday May 19th 2019 at the Hungerford & Clarke funeral home in Freeport N.Y. 7-9 P.M. Department service at 8 P.M. Funeral mass 930 A.M. on Monday May 20th at Our Holy Redeemer R.C. Church Burial S.Ocean Ave. Freeport N.Y. Burial will be at the Pine lawn Cemetery in Farmingdale N.Y.
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Ex Captain Paul C Perez, Former member of Excelsior Truck Co.#1 and Life member of this association, who passed away on May 23,2019 at the age of 86. Paul joined the Freeport Fire Department in January 1959 serving as an active member for almost 20 years. Prior to joining the Department ,Paul served in the United States Navy Our Condolences go out to his son, Chuck and to the rest of his family and friends, and to the Officers and Members of Truck Co.# 1 on their loss. Private cremation services were held. A memorial celebration of life service will be planned in June or July in Freeport. Followed by Burial, at the Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury N.Y. Details will be announced as they are made available.
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of former firefighter Daniel “DANO” Lehane, Former member of Bayview Hose Co.#3 and member of this association, who passed away on January 19,2019 at the age of 61. Dano joined the Freeport Fire Department in March 1982 serving as an active member for almost 35 years. Our Condolences go out to his Father Edward, Brothers Thomas, Edward, sister Mary Ellen and to the rest of his family, friends, and to the Officers and Members of Hose Co.# 3 on their loss. Funeral services were held in Florida, additional services will be held on Sunday February 17th 2019 at the Hungerford & Clarke funeral home in Freeport N.Y. 2-4 P.M. Department service at 3 P.M. Clarke, Former member of Patriot Hose Co.#4 and Life member of this association, who passed away on January 10,2019 at the age of 82. P.J. joined the Freeport Fire Department in October 1954 serving as an active member for almost 60 years. Our Condolences go out to his friends, and to the Officers and Members of Hose Co.#4 on their loss. Funeral services were held in Florida on Wednesday January 16, 2019, Burial will be on Tuesday January 22nd 11 A.M. at the St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale N.Y.
