Welcome to the website for the Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association of Freeport. Every year we provide on average fifty members and their families with financial assistance when they are dealing with illness or financial hardship in their life. We also provide assistance by lending medical equipment, including wheelchairs, mobile scooters, walkers and more. We even provide assistance for corrective lenses, and funeral services.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of, Ex Captain, 31-year member of the Department Wade Hubschmitt, of Bayview Hose Company #3, who passed away on February 18th , 2026 at the age of 66. Wade joined the Freeport Fire Department in 1991 . Continuing to serve the Freeport Fire Department to the time of his passing. Our Condolences go out to his Son Wesley, and to the rest of his family and friends, and to the Officers and Members of Bayview Hose Co.# 3 on their loss. Wake will be held on Saturday February 21,2026 3 P.M. TO 7 P.M. Department Service 630 P.M. At the Perry Funeral Home 118 Union Ave. Lynbrook N.Y. Wade donated his body to Stoney Brook University for medical research.
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of, Ex Captain, Life member of the Association, 22-year member of the Department Arthur Hirsch, of Emergency Rescue Company #9, who passed away on January 26th , 2026 at the age of 87. Arthur joined the Freeport Fire Department in June 1978, with a distinguished service with the U.S. Army Reserves. Continuing to serve the Freeport Fire Department to March of 2000. Arthur worked as a Transit bus driver. Our Condolences go out to his Wife Lori, Daughter , Michele Hirsch , Son Mitchell Hirsch, brother Mel and to the rest of his family and friends, and to the Officers and Members of Emergency Rescue Co.# 9 on their loss. Buriel with military honors, will take place on February 9th, 1 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery- 6502 S.W. 102nd Ave. Bushnell Fla.
